"when a lie runs thousands of miles for years, it takes only a moment of truth to catch up"
On Friday the 27th of may 2011 which also marked the last working day of Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the Governor of Ogun state, a brief handing over ceremony was held as he presented his hand over notes and also rendered his account of service after serving as the state Governor for 8yrs. Several hours later at about 11pm Otunba Gbenga Daniel was on a British Airways flight en-route the UK for holidays, barely 36hrs to the Presidential/Governorship inauguration ceremony.
An excuse for his sudden trip was information that Gbenga Daniel had 3weeks earlier informed security agencies within the state of his intentions to travel. Aside that Gbenga Daniel also mentioned the absence of former Governor Segun Osoba back in 2003 during his own swearing in ceremony.
If this wasn't questionable enough, unconfirmed reports of various cheques issued by Gbenga Daniel to individual appointees bounced back at designated bank branches.
In addition to speculations of Gbenga Daniels misappropriation of funds during his tenure, also were reports that the EFCC already was on the heels of the erstwhile Governor based on ongoing investigations.
Well for a start, the Ogun State House of Assembly which has been closed to a majority since the 6th of September 2010 held a plenary session on the 1st of June 2011. In a bid to show displeasure at the way things have been run, recently revoked decisions made by the former Governor Gbenga Daniel.
The OGD Plaza named after the Governor has been renamed OPIC Towers.
The Gateway Hotels Concession of 520 Million Naira for 25yrs also revoked
All appointments and promotions within the last three months revokrd.
The refund of all monies spent by minority lawmakers between the period 6th september 2010 till date.
The inclusion of Gbenga Daniel and 8 House of Assembly members in the Ogun House of Assembly Black Book (OHABB).
Approved the renaming of Gateway Stadium to Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, among others.
Its easy to see that an amicable resolve in the political crises in Ogun state is far from feasible, as the drama continues to unfold in series its only the big fish episode thats bound to be star studded.
