"sometimes even good-luck needs some luck"
The resolve by the FEC to purchase mass transit buses and expidite the repair of the railways around the country instead of an instant revert of the subsidy declaration is an insult to all citizens of the country. Question: does a purchase of 1600 mass buses and repair of railways have to come from an emergency FEC meeting?. More interesting is the statement accredited to our own Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who has threatned to resign if Jonathan rescinds his decision on fuel subsidy. Its easy to piece up information together and suspect some kind of conspiracy which wouldn't be out of place to a paranoid mind, but the rate and determination at which the Nigerian Government is going about the whole issue makes it easy for anyone following the political events of the Jonathan administration more than suspicious.
On the other half of the football court sits Nigerian labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, NGO's and other Activist groups who have vowed to fight to the finish by initializing a nationwide strike intending to paralyze completely all sectors of the economy to start on Monday 9th January 2012. If the Federal Government has the interest of the general populace in mind, there are several ways to go about the subsidy one of which is a gradual introduction by percentages, and as the monies being realized from it is utilized for the said purpose the idea would not be as alien as it is right now.
The voice of the people is and always will be the voice of God. Nobody prays for war even though its a profitable venture for some. In this vein the Jonathan administration should know that when it comes to human instincts for survival, anything is possible.
This wouldn't be the first issue the federal government will have to chew its tongue on, so no need to make such a fuss before throwing in the towel. Do the right thing
