PRO-SUBSIDY PROTEST DAY 1
"instant action replaces words than are no longer enough for the presumed wise"
What began as a normal day in the city of Lagos Nigeria, gradually saw more than an anticipated no of people out on the streets in peaceful protests that swept throughout the whole city and major areas of Lagos. As the sea of people moved through the streets, burning tires, taunting security attachments who where on standby and stopping vehicles to encourage passengers to join in was all part of the walks activities.
Chanting songs and waving placards the people of Lagos expressed their utter disappointment and unwillingness to accept the subsidy removal which has been in effect since the 1st of January 2012. Fortunately all the way throughout the exercise the Nigerian police, mobile police, soldiers and other military formations on ground were as peaceful as some even joined in the walk, by contributing songs for the gyration.
This peaceful attitude of the military formations in Lagos wasn't experienced everywhere else across the nation as several other states came in in mass to protest and were faced with challenges of police brutality, teargas and in some extreme cases shots were fired and casualties were recorded in states such as Kano, Kaduna, Ilorin, Lokoja, Ibadan, Abeokuta.
Its quite commendable the bravado and determination with which Nigerians from different walks of life came out today in mass to stand against the illegality of the Jonathan administration.
The Presidents call for an emergency FEC at noon tommorow Wednesday the 4th 2012 shouldn't be a show of pride, its no duck walk for any undemocratic democracy anymore. The earlier a soothing alternative is arrived at the better.
